Camels as Allah’s Ayat – Humaid’s work
“Then do they not look towards the Camels as to how they are created” [Quran 88:17]
The more we seek knowledge about camels, the more we realize the wonders of Allah’s creations. For instance they have hooves like a horse. They have padded feet that are more like a dog’s. Their feet are designed to spread over the top of the ground to prevent them from sinking into the hot sand, the way snowshoes work for humans. This feature is vital for camels to survive and thrive in the desert. They also have callouses , tough and hardened skin on their legs and a pedestal on their chest to keep from getting burned when they sit on top of sand. Their thick coats also prevent sunburn. They have two sets of eyelashes (unlike ours of one) and a nictitating membrane that covers each eye to prevent any sand damage. Additionally, they have long nostrils that they can close in a sandstorm. During this time, they breathe through their split lip, which helps to keep the sand out of their lungs. The physiology and biochemistry of the camel are geared towards conservation of water. Camels survive without drinking for up to 6 weeks and can drink and store as much as 50 gallons of water in their bodies. The more we seek knowledge of Camel as one of the Ayaat, one of the creations of Allah, the more we realize the greatness and wisdom of Allah to create Camels as they are rightly called the Ship of the Desert.
We learned all this thanks to this homework by Humaid-a 7 year old very smart and talented boy in our Quran Fahmi Class, who not only picked Camel as one of the Ayaat of Allah, illustrated it with this beautiful drawing, selected and mentioned this thought provoking Quranic ayah asking us to seek knowledge about Camel as Allah’s creations and discussed these fun facts about Camels. We are blessed to have him as student and we pray for him to continue to make his parents and teachers proud of him. Ameen
