Duaa as per Quran
The law of Attraction- the Omnipresent Laws that govern the Universe… “When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it”
We as Muslims believe that supplication or making duaa is similar to saying that “we depend on Allah while we do not do any efforts or when we can not do anything else, we simply make duaa and wait for Allah to respond to our prayers/supplication/duaas”. We as Muslims tend to confuse this Quranic word “Duaa” as the Urdu word duaa with the meaning as praying to Allah. Whereas in fact the word “Duaa” has very specific meanings as per Quran. Quran itself define these words through its own ayahs.
[Quran- 13:14} ‘To Him is duaa of Haq (supplication). And those who call others besides Him, HE do not respond to them with a thing except like a man who stretches his hands towards the water that it reach his mouth, but it will never reach it. And Not the ‘duaa’ of non- believers (kafareen)but in error.’
As we can see this is ‘Duaa’ by non-believers (Mushrekeen & Kafareen). So one can ask how can a Kafir or a Mushrik make ‘duaa’. Actually ‘Duaa’ as per Quran means asking for help and results of one’s efforts from the system of God almighty i.e. from the whole universe. And God says only the Duaa of Haq will be answered. Duaa by non believers or those who call on others besides Allah, will not be responded. These duaas will be similar to the one who would stretch his hand towards the water so that he could drink it, but his hand never reaches the water. This means that no matter how hard one tries, if he/she is one of those who are Mushrakeen (i.e. calls others besides Allah), then all his/her efforts will never produce results, their duaas will not be answered by God Almighty. In Quran, God gives very specific guidelines if we want our ‘duaas’ to be answered.
[Quran- Surah Al-Anbiya , Ayah 94 ]”So he who does the right deeds and is a believer, will not have his efforts(Sa’aiy) rejected. And indeed We are recorder of it.
[Quran- Surah An-Najm, Ayah 39] And that is not for man except what he strives for (Sa’aiy)
As is obvious from above ayahs, contrary to the common belief among us as Muslims, Quran’s basic focus behind the word Duaa is on doing Sa’aiy – the concept in a nutshell is the same as behind the famous law of Attraction- the Omnipresent Laws that govern the Universe… “When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.’
As per Quran the law of attraction- how our Duaa is answered, is summarized in the word ‘Sa’aiy’ or making a firm determination, a firm objective in your mind to achieve something with firm and solid conviction that you will achieve it with the help of God and no one else; then making efforts with your whole being, utilizing all of your resources, faculties and capabilities to its maximum with your full force, attention, energy and strength to achieve that goal- if you do this then you will see that the whole universe will conspire in helping you achieve it…and that’s how Allah answers your Duaa.
Its also because of the application of this Law of Attraction- the concept of ‘Sa’aiy’ as per Quran that we need to be extremely careful what objective we keep in mind, what our goals are. We need to be careful what we wish for, we might get it. Therefore, we must aim for what is right and which is within the boundaries set out by God in Quran.
[Quran- Surah Ash-Shura, Verse 19]: “Allah is Benignant to His servants; He gives sustenance to whom He pleases, and He is the Strong, the Mighty.”
[Quran – Surah Ash-Shura, Verse 20] “Whoever desires the harvest of the Hereafter – We increase in this harvest. And whoever desires the harvest of this world – We give thereof, but there is not in the Hereafter any share.”
The Concept of making Duaa and the concept of doing ‘Sa’aiy’ is so beautifully aligned and highlighted in the following ayahs which describe the incident of Hazrat Younus when he was swallowed by a fish. Please note that in these Ayahs, the word Mussabbaheen’s broad meanings are “to swim, to make efforts, to work hard in a quick movements/manner either in air or in water as if one is swimming”.
[Quran Surah As-Saaffat, Verse 143] “But had it not been that he was of those who struggle”
[Quran- Surah As-Saaffat, Verse 144] “He would certainly have stuck in its belly to the day when they are resurrected”
Hence the word “Sabbah” in the above Ayah means “to struggle with full effort and strength to get out of the fish mouth and swim towards the shore”. God is saying that even the prophet- Hazrat Younus has to struggle, try with his full force and strength in order to get out of the fish and swim to the shore, otherwise he would have stayed in the belly until the day of resurrection. This is the prophet, Hazrat Younus, God is talking about in these Ayahs.
Just Imagine that even the prophet has to struggle in order to get out of a difficult situation- a simple Duaa, like the way we as Muslims are accustomed to nowadays, will not do, neither for any prophet nor for any normal Muslims like us. Similarly, this is true for each and every one of us. We have to do Sa’aiy if we want our Duaas to be answered by God Almighty and we need to be careful towards what we are doing Sa’aiy for. Definitely when we do Sa’aiy, we keep our objectives within the parameters defined as Duaa for Haq, we do Sa’aiy with our firm conviction and faith on GOD Almighty for results in accordance to our efforts and then and only then our Duaa gets answered by God Almighty.
