B.   THE CONCEPT:

THE CONTEXT

We learned from the earlier Ayahs, the last Ayahs of Surah Al-A’raf about the Mushrkeen and how they used Allah’s blessings for Shirk- The blessings of Allah such as resources, efforts, vision, and proclamation, given to people were used by Shuraka’a in the system of Shirk. Resources are used for their actions, efforts that are put forward for people’s hereafter are used cruelly to destroy Allah’s system, people’s vision is used for understanding the system of shirk, and proclamation of shirk acts, aspects and laws is used to implement the system of shirk.  Even through people may have been in the past used their human faculties for enquiry and investigation but once proven and validated by the system of Shirk, the Mushrekeen remain deeply engulfed in the system, since they cannot perceive or understand the guidance of Allah, despite their intellectual faculties and they remain engulfed in the system of shirk.

How Mutaqueen got Involved- Muttaqueen, those who follow the laws of Allah by being extra careful end up following the majority of those around them since these acts of shirk surround them and in repeated fashion. The system of Shirk exposes people to its harsh impacts, making it urgent for us, the addressee of the Quran to do Zikar. It’s only through the Zikar of Allah, we can protect ourselves and those around us from the pillars of strength and support of Shirk that encourage deviation, misleading others, and enticement to annul their covenant with Allah.

The divine guidance given to us in terms of Our Interactions with Mushrekeen is that we should challenge them by asking questions about their seeking help from Allah’s system in their endeavors to invite people to their Shuraka’a, and examining their scheming. By examining their systems and laws, they would be able to understand that Allah’s system is the only guardian, and protector for them. We need to make them realize that their Shuraka’a lack courage, strength, and abilities to provide assistance, protection, or support in any shape or form since they even cannot do so for themselves. We should strongly adhere to Allah’s guidance and honor it by raising its standing and stature. A three-prong strategy communicated with the use of the word Aa’riz to combat Mushrekeen and Shuraka’a, who lack knowledge and are considered Jahileen. This strategy involves exposing their acts of Shirk, spreading Allah’s message, and acting as a shield against their behaviors. If Mushrekeen and Shuraka’a create lawlessness, discord, and animosity, we should seek protection and refuge through Allah’s system, which is the embodiment of all perception and knowledge.  In our interactions with Mushrekeen, the divine guidance is to employ the following 2 strategies

1- Iqra the Quran: In our interactions with Mushrekeen, when we don’t follow their signs of Shirk, they become curious about our reasons. Our inspired conducts and behaviors after receiving Allah’s message should reflect to them that only these changed actions and behaviors can lead to success, growth, prosperity, protection, life, and care. By showing that we are recipients of these blessings because we strengthen the acts and people who seek knowledge by utilizing their faculties in order to be in complete conviction with Allah, we invite people to the path of Allah. To receive Allah’s blessings and Rahmat, we must read, understand, and implement Allah’s Quran, compile it within themselves, and proclaim it to others without amendment. This process involves observing and implementing the Ayaat and Message, attentively listening, executing it with care, and remaining unrelenting, persistent, and steadfast throughout the process.

2- Do Zikar and Remain Humble: Divine guidance encourages Zikar, understanding and following Allah’s Ayaat, gratitude, and learning from past nation’s stories. Continuously practicing these practices can help others realize their mistakes and self-reflection by arousing their concerns. We should do this in a hidden manner without publicizing acts of Shirk, focusing on their root and essence, to prevent ignorance, and oblivion. Those who have valued and considered significant the Rabb ever in their lives, would never magnify themselves, become self-righteous, proud, arrogant, judge others, or magnify their acts. They strive with their whole being by being persistent in the path of Allah and they submit humbly to Allah’s laws with complete and utter conviction of heart and mind.

CONCEPT OF THESE AYAHS

Ayah 8:1, “They Salunaka (يَسْأَلُونَكَ) about the Anfaali (الْأَنْفَالِ). Quli (قُلِ) the Anfaalu (الْأَنْفَالُ) to Allah and the Rasuli (وَالرَّسُولِ). So, Attaqu (فَاتَّقُوا) Allah and As’lihu (وَأَصْلِحُوا) Zaata (ذَاتَ) your Bayni (بَيْنِكُمْ). And At’iu’u (وَأَطِيعُوا) Allah and Rasulahu (وَرَسُولَهُ) if Kuntum (كُنْتُمْ) Muminina (مُؤْمِنِينَ).”

They ask you (يَسْأَلُونَكَ) about the additional, extra, surplus or beyond one’s needs and requirements (الْأَنْفَالِ), reflect from your conducts and speech (قُلِ) that, the surplus (الْأَنْفَالُ) is towards/belongs to Allah and Allah’s Rasool (وَالرَّسُولِ). So, observe Taqwa, follow Allah’s laws by being extra careful and cautious of your covenant with (فَاتَّقُوا) Allah and perform deeds of is’lah, amendments and reform (وَأَصْلِحُوا) of your possessions, belongings, the essence and the soul (ذَاتَ) among yourselves (بَيْنِكُمْ). And obey and follow the laws of (وَأَطِيعُوا) Allah and Allah’s Rasool (وَرَسُولَهُ) if you aim to be of (كُنْتُمْ) those who Amanu, use their intellect to seek knowledge in order to be at peace and utter conviction with Allah (مُؤْمِنِينَ).

Keeping in view the divine lessoned learned from the last ayahs of Surah Al-Araf- chapter no. 7, where we learned the important concepts and application of Iqra the Quran, doing of Zikar and remaining humble, these earlier ayahs of the Surah Al-Anfal- Chapter no. 8, talk about the important concept of Anfaal. This Ayah is addressing us, as those who are Iqra the Quran, who are doing Zikar of Allah and are always humble and modest in our interactions with others. Thus, when it is asked and enquired from us, about those aspects of our possessions, abilities, time, efforts, wealth and valuables that are surplus, i.e. beyond our needs and requirements, we should reflect not only from our speech but also from our conducts that these belong to the path of Allah, in terms of Allah’s system and Risalat- message. The best way that we can spend these Anfaal in the path of Allah, is by observing Taqwa, i.e. by following Allah’s laws by being extra careful and cautious of our covenant with Allah and by performing acts Is’lah, i.e. amendments, corrections, improvement and reform, not just of our our possessions and belongings but also the very basic essence and foundations of our soul, by spending these Anfaal for the benefit of others. This is how we obey and follow the laws of Allah and Allah’s Risalat and this is how we, through our conducts and actions, become the Momineen, i.e. those who use their intellect to seek knowledge in order to be at peace and utter conviction with Allah.

Ayah 8:2, “Indeed, what the Muminuna (الْمُؤْمِنُونَ)- those who when Zukira (ذُكِرَ) Allah and Jilat (وَجِلَتْ) their Qulub (قُلُوبُهُمْ) and when Tuliyat (تُلِيَتْ) upon them Ayatuhu (آيَاتُهُ) Zadat (زَادَتْهُمْ) them Imaanan (إِيمَانًا) and A’ala (وَعَلَىٰ) their Rabbi (رَبِّهِمْ) they Tawakkaluna (يَتَوَكَّلُونَ).”

Ayah 8:3, “Those they Yuqimuna (يُقِيمُونَ) the S’alata (الصَّلَاةَ) and from what their Razaqna (رَزَقْنَاهُمْ) they Yunfiquna (يُنْفِقُونَ).”

Ayah 8:4, “Those- they are the Muminuna (الْمُؤْمِنُونَ) Haqqan (حَقًّا)- For them Darajatun (دَرَجَاتٌ) A’enda (عِنْدَ) their Rabbi (رَبِّهِمْ) and Maghfiratun (وَمَغْفِرَةٌ) and Riz’qun (وَرِزْقٌ) Karimun (كَرِيمٌ).”

Indeed, what are those who Amanu, who use their intellect to seek knowledge in order to be at peace and utter conviction with Allah (الْمُؤْمِنُونَ)- those who when do Zikar, understand and follow the Ayaat of Allah, remember Allah’s blessings and follow Allah’s laws in utter gratitude and learn lessons from previous stories (ذُكِرَ) and by behaving in a clam and serious way, they make the most of, utilize up to their maximum (وَجِلَتْ) their abilities, perception, and coherence of their hearts and minds reflected in their perceived and intentional decisions (قُلُوبُهُمْ) and when they follow Tuliyat (تُلِيَتْ) upon them the signs of Allah, both from the Kitaab as well as signs in the universe (آيَاتُهُ) this is how is enhanced, advanced and aided (زَادَتْهُمْ) for them their covenants, their Aemaan with Allah (إِيمَانًا) and up to its maximum, prestige and epitome (وَعَلَىٰ) upon their Rabbi (رَبِّهِمْ) they rely and put their trusts on (يَتَوَكَّلُونَ).

Those they establish, contribute towards and strengthen (يُقِيمُونَ) the system of social care system (الصَّلَاةَ) and from what their ways and means of personality and character development they have (رَزَقْنَاهُمْ) they become active (يُنْفِقُونَ).

Those- they are those who Amanu, who use their intellect to seek knowledge in order to be at peace and utter conviction with Allah (الْمُؤْمِنُونَ) in a manner of  absolute truth and justice, as per the due right of how Amanu should be and in accordance with their duties and responsibilities (حَقًّا)- For them are all the blessings that are their due right and aligned with their Akhira and as per their perfect recompense (دَرَجَاتٌ) as significant and important for (عِنْدَ) their Rabbi (رَبِّهِمْ) and as their protection and shield from the impacts of bad deeds and the path of Taghoot (وَمَغْفِرَةٌ) and all sources of personality and character development (وَرِزْقٌ) abundantly, generously and in abundance (كَرِيمٌ).

After defining the concept of Anfaal and linking it strongly to those who observe taqwa and are Momineen, these three ayahs now are giving us the characteristics of those who are Momineen- those who Amanu, who use their intellect to seek knowledge in order to be at peace and utter conviction with Allah. The basic characteristics of Momineen are the following

1- They do Zikar, understand and follow the Ayaat of Allah, remember Allah’s blessings and follow Allah’s laws in utter gratitude and learn lessons from previous stories. They do Zikar by behaving in a clam and serious way, they make the most of and utilize up to their maximum their abilities, perceptions, and coherence of their hearts and minds reflected in their perceived and intentional decisions

2- They follow the signs of Allah, both from the Kitaab as well as signs in the universe, in terms of them making efforts to understand and implement these Ayaat of Allah.

3- They are the upholders of their Emaan- their covenants with Allah, up to its maximum, prestige and epitome which kept on enhanced, advanced and aided for them

4- They rely and put their reliance, trust and comfort in Allah being the ultimate trustee, the authority, the ultimate sovereign, the master, the wakeel- lawmaker and the judge, for them

5- They establish, contribute towards and strengthen the system of social care and community benefit and they remain active consistently by spending for the benefit of others from what has been given to them as all their means and resources of personality and character development

The above are the basic required actions and characteristics of those who are Momineen, since this is in accordance with the due right, the absolute truth and justice, and their duties and responsibilities. When we become Momineen in accordance with these characteristics, then the system of Allah responds to us in the following three ways. 1) It ensures that we are granted significant and important blessings as per our due right and aligned with our Akhira- as per the perfect recompense for us; 2) We get protected and shielded not only from the impacts of our past conducted bad deeds but also any impacts of those following the path of Taghoot and 3) We are all sources of personality and character development generously and in abundance.

Ayah 8:5, “As what Akhrajaka (أَخْرَجَكَ) Rabbuka (رَبُّكَ) from Baytika (بَيْتِكَ) with the Haqi (بِالْحَقِّ) and Indeed, Fareeqan (فَرِيقًا) from the Muminina (الْمُؤْمِنِينَ) to Karihuna (لَكَارِهُونَ).”

Ayah 8:6, “They Yujadilunaka (يُجَادِلُونَكَ) in the Haqi (الْحَقِّ) after what Tabayyana (تَبَيَّنَ) as what they Yusaquna (يُسَاقُونَ) to the Mawti (الْمَوْتِ) and they Yunzuruna (يَنْظُرُونَ).”

As what is exited and thrown out in the past (أَخْرَجَكَ) by the Rabb (رَبُّكَ) from their areas of comfort and aspects that they were at home (بَيْتِكَ) was only with absolute justice, truth, due right and in accordance with their duties (بِالْحَقِّ) and Indeed, clearly differentiated and distinct segment (فَرِيقًا) from those who Amanu, who use their intellect to seek knowledge in order to be at peace and utter conviction with Allah (الْمُؤْمِنِينَ) were those who detested this, didn’t like this and were against this (لَكَارِهُونَ).

They replaced and switched (يُجَادِلُونَكَ) from the absolute truth and justice (الْحَقِّ) after what was made clear, given as a proof and criteria and made distinct for them (تَبَيَّنَ) as what they made as the stem, foundation and joining entity at its core (يُسَاقُونَ) towards the absolute death, going to extreme in Kufar and not being alive (الْمَوْتِ) while they were observing and perceiving (يَنْظُرُونَ).

After describing the characteristics of Momineen and how the system of Allah responds to Momineen, in these ayahs Allah is talking about one distinct group of people that were different and unlike Momineen. There are always certain aspects, customs, traditions and norms, that become part of human society and with the passage of time, such customs are taken up as part of people’s comfort zones, that is their ‘residence where people are at home with. When based on Allah’s wisdom and guidance, the futile, destructive and damaging aspects of such norms were asked to be exited and thrown out, with absolute truth and justice, these distinct group of people detested this, and went in direct opposition to this withdrawal. After it was made clear, given as a proof and criteria and made distinct for humanity by Allah, this distinct group of people, in their opposition, replaced and switched the Haqq- the absolute truth and justice and Allah’s message and commandments, with such aspects that became the foundations and joining entities towards the absolute death, going to extreme in Kufar and not being alive in spite of the fact that people could observe and perceive and could have used their intellectual abilities to discern the divine commandments from human fabrications.

Ayah 8:7, “And when Ya’edukumu (يَعِدُكُمُ) Allah Ahda (إِحْدَى) the T’aifatayni (الطَّائِفَتَيْنِ), Indeed that is for you and Tawadduna (وَتَوَدُّونَ) that Ghayra (غَيْرَ) Zaati (ذَاتِ) the Shawkati (الشَّوْكَةِ) Takunu (تَكُونُ) for you and Yuridu (وَيُرِيدُ) Allah- Indeed, Yhiqqa (يُحِقَّ) the Haqa (الْحَقَّ) with Kalimatihi (بِكَلِمَاتِهِ) and Yaqt’a’a (وَيَقْطَعَ) Dabira (دَابِرَ) the Kaafirina (الْكَافِرِينَ).”

Ayah 8:8, “So that Yuhiqqa (لِيُحِقَّ) the Haqa (الْحَقَّ) and Yubt’ila (وَيُبْطِلَ) the Baat’ila (الْبَاطِلَ) and if Kariha (كَرِهَ) the Mujrimuna (الْمُجْرِمُونَ).”

And when Allah creates the results through assumptions, views, calculations and opinions (يَعِدُكُمُ) much beyond the average in terms of being matchless and unrivalled (إِحْدَى) to the groups of people who do things the same way in repeated fashion (الطَّائِفَتَيْنِ), Indeed that is for you an acceptable and satisfactory situation, aspect and outcome (وَتَوَدُّونَ) that is other than, without and contradiction of (غَيْرَ) the possessions, belongings, essence and the soul (ذَاتِ) of the force, bravery, might, power, strength, and capability (الشَّوْكَةِ) of what you aim to achieve as a final destination through your conducts  (تَكُونُ) for you and what is the desired results of the system of Allah (وَيُرِيدُ)- Indeed, Allah and Allah’s system upholds, strengthen and fosters (يُحِقَّ) the absolute truth, justice, due rights, duties and responsibilities (الْحَقَّ) with the wisdom and words of Allah (بِكَلِمَاتِهِ) and disconnects, discourages, and curtail (وَيَقْطَعَ) powers, resources, ways and means of providing strength and stability (دَابِرَ) those who do Kufar, hide and conceal their intellect, do not seek knowledge, deny and reject the Ayaat of Allah and go against the covenant with Allah (الْكَافِرِينَ).

So that upholds, strengthen and fosters (لِيُحِقَّ) the absolute truth, justice, due rights, duties and responsibilities (الْحَقَّ) and destroys, curtails, abolishes and eliminates (وَيُبْطِلَ) the system, people, laws and acts of Baat’il, destruction and discord (الْبَاطِلَ) and if dislike, hate and detest (كَرِهَ) those who due to them being in extreme Kufar have doubts, fears, and reservations, in terms of them being uncertain, unsure and unsafe (الْمُجْرِمُونَ).

After replacing Allah’s laws with human fabrications in the name of the divine, in order to make sure the people remain in comfort and ease, the distinct group of people created a system and societal norms based on heresy, assumptions, views, and opinions. Thus, instead of basing on distinct and clear facts and Haqq, these societal norms and traditions were promoted and integrated into the societies and communities in a matchless and unrivalled manner led by such groups of people who do things the same way and in repeated fashion. This situation, which was not only devoid of any courage, bravery, power, strength, and capability of humanity’s possessions, belongings, and essence, but in fact was in direction contradiction of such strength, courage and capability. Although this situation was acceptable and satisfactory outcome for humanity majority of whom want to remain within their comfort zones, but this was in direction contradiction to the essence of the desired results of the system of Allah. System of Allah as embodiment of Allah’s fitrat at the time of our birth, Allah’s laws of deen and laws of nature and the wisdom and words of Allah, aims to uphold, strengthen and foster the Haqq- the absolute truth, justice, due rights, duties and responsibilities. On the other hand, it aims to disconnects, discourages, and curtail all such powers, resources, ways and means of providing strength and stability for those who are Kafireen- i.e. those who hide and conceal their intellect, do not seek knowledge, deny and reject the Ayaat of Allah and go against the covenant with Allah.  Allah’s system upholds, strengthen and fosters the Haqq- the absolute truth, justice, due rights, duties and responsibilities whereas it destroys, curtails, abolishes and eliminates the Baat’il- the system, people, laws and acts of Baat’il, destruction and discord in the society, even if it’s disliked, hated and detested by the Mujremun- those who due to them being in extreme Kufar have doubts, fears, and reservations, in terms of them being uncertain, unsure and unsafe.

Ayah 8:9, “When Tastaghisuna (تَسْتَغِيثُونَ) Rabbakum (رَبَّكُمْ) then, Istajaba (فَاسْتَجَابَ) for you. Indeed, I Mumiddu (مُمِدُّكُمْ) you with Alfin (بِأَلْفٍ) of the Malaikati (الْمَلَائِكَةِ) Murdifina (مُرْدِفِينَ).”

Ayah 8:10, “And what Ja’alahu (جَعَلَهُ) Allah except Bushra (بُشْرَىٰ) and so that to Tat’ma’inna (وَلِتَطْمَئِنَّ) with it your Qulub (قُلُوبُكُمْ). And what the Nas’ru (النَّصْرُ) except from A’endi (عِنْدِ) Allah. Indeed, Allah A’zizun (عَزِيزٌ) Hakimun (حَكِيمٌ).”

When you ask for aid, rescue and relief (تَسْتَغِيثُونَ) from your Rabb (رَبَّكُمْ) then, let Your Rabb responds (فَاسْتَجَابَ) for you. Indeed, I help, aid and enforce (مُمِدُّكُمْ) with the unity and working in coherence of one another (بِأَلْفٍ) of the Malaik- the forces and laws of nature (الْمَلَائِكَةِ) coming one after another, in subsequent fashion and working with each other (مُرْدِفِينَ).

And what appoint for duties by (جَعَلَهُ) Allah except glad tidings (بُشْرَىٰ) and so that to be content, calm and satisfied after relief from all worries (وَلِتَطْمَئِنَّ) with it your intentional decision making on the basis of all your perceptions and use of your intellectual abilities (قُلُوبُكُمْ). They replace the Haqq with aspects that become the foundations of absolute death and living in extreme state of Kufar, even though people were blessed with intellectual abilities on the basis of which they could have discerned divine commandments from human fabrications.

  • BASIC AIM TO REMAIN IN THEIR COMFORT ZONES: A group of people created societal norms based on heresy, assumptions, and opinions to ensure comfort and ease.
