B.   THE CONCEPT:

THE CONTEXT

The earlier Ayahs of Surah Al-A’raf continued the discussions of Baniy Adam’s assigned duties versus their actions by informing us how They dissected Allah’s Message to Follow and Lead Laws of Shaytan. Baniy Adam, Earth’s caretakers, were instructed to follow Allah’s Message through relevant Ayaats. However, they dissected, sliced through, disregarded and manipulated these statements, and focused on seeking and following the Shayteen instead. Their actions led them to be misled, deviated, and got strayed, ensuring their covenant with Allah is annulled and invalidated by them as they follow other laws in matters of Deen.

Them becoming like Domesticated pets: These laws of Shaytaan aimed to elevate distinction and pride among its followers by seeking desires that deviated from the Sabeel of Allah, leading them to forget accountability and recompense. Their actions resemble domesticated pets following orders of their Shayateen, the leaders, without using their intellectual faculties. Thus, by denying, rejecting, ridiculing and taking Allah’s Ayaat as jokes, they face extreme difficulties due to shock, pain, and surprise, whether someone tries to take care of them, being patient as caretakers of them or whether they were rejected or ignored. Once they retrace their steps and face accountability and remain in the perpetual state of thinking, then and only then would be able to understand the reasons behind their retribution.

Them becoming Examples for Worst Possible Human Behaviours: People who commit extreme acts of injustice, such as denying or ridiculing the Ayaat of Allah, create societal imbalance and destruction. These actions reflect their selfish interests and egoistic desires, aiming to earn wealth at the cost of others. They exhibit worst behavior towards others, not respecting their rights or dignity. The law of requital, characterized by perfect accountability and recompense, lead many Jinn o Ins- i.e. those who are hidden, as well as common people, to grow to a great extent towards hell to ultimately become their everlasting punishment, and abode of loss.

The Reason- being Heedless of Allah’s Blessings: Individuals with intellect and human faculties were given the ability to make informed decisions, but instead were confined to a state of blind following, lacking understanding and perception. Despite possessing visions and foresights, they are unable to perceive, understand, or attain knowledge or enlightenment after using these faculties. They have been given Allah’s message and guidance, but they struggle to carefully perceive it with their undivided attention and focus. Allah’s blessings include intellect, reasoning, observation, thinking, visions, foresights, and guidance which were all granted as Na’imat- i.e. as sources of success, prosperity, peace, security, and unity. However, many are misled and get astray from Allah’s path, resulting in misguided actions since they remain unaware, and heedless about these blessings of Allah.

Thus, in Conclusion, individuals who align with and follow the laws of Allah are guided, while those who deviate from this path commit extreme injustices against themselves and others who are their Ahal- their responsibilities, ultimately leading them to become Khaasiron i.e. losers in both their Duniya and Akhira.

CONCEPT OF THESE AYAHS

Ayah 7:180, “And to Allah the Asma’u (الْأَسْمَاءُ) the Husna (الْحُسْنَىٰ) so Adu’hu (فَادْعُوهُ) with it and Zaru (وَذَرُوا) those who they Yulhiduna (يُلْحِدُونَ) of Allah’s Ism (أَسْمَائِهِ). Let them Yujzawna (سَيُجْزَوْنَ) what Kanu (كَانُوا) they do.”

And to Allah the deep and thorough knowledge (الْأَسْمَاءُ) the that which is best, is most desirable and pleasing to the soul, is given without any expectation of return and is given beyond one’s due rights (الْحُسْنَىٰ) so seek, call and invite (فَادْعُوهُ) with it and leave, disconnect and disassociate (وَذَرُوا) those who they are set in stone in terms of their deeply rooted beliefs and customs that they are not willing to change (يُلْحِدُونَ) of Allah’s deep and thorough knowledge (أَسْمَائِهِ). Let them get the recompense and face the consequences of (سَيُجْزَوْنَ) what through their actions they aim towards what (كَانُوا) they do.

Thus, after highlighting in the earlier Ayahs two distinct group of people, one on the path of Allah and another being diverted and misled, in this Ayah Allah stress that only those aspects belong to Allah that have the deep and thorough knowledge of being the best, the most desirable and pleasing to our souls, that which is given without any expectation of return and granted beyond our due rights. Therefore we, as addressees of the Quran, should seek these aspects, invite and call with the help of it and through these. Whereas for those who are set in stone in terms of their deeply rooted beliefs and customs that they are not willing to change or even to use their intellect to seek knowledge of in order to be at a stage of utter and deep conviction with such deep and through knowledge of Husn of Allah, we should leave them, disconnect and separate from them and let them get the recompense and face the consequences of their actions, sooner or later.

Ayah 7:181, “And of those whom Khalaqna (خَلَقْنَا) Ummatun (أُمَّةٌ) – they Yahduna (يَهْدُونَ) with Haqqa (بِالْحَقِّ) and with it, they Ya’diluna (يَعْدِلُونَ).”

Ayah 7:182, “And those who Kazabu (كَذَّبُوا) with Ayatina (بِآيَاتِنَا)- let Sanastadrijuhum (سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُمْ) from Hayisu (حَيْثُ) not they Ya’lamuna (يَعْلَمُونَ).”

Ayah 7:183, “And Umliy (وَأُمْلِي) for them- Indeed, Kaydi (كَيْدِي) Matinun (مَتِينٌ).”

And of those whom created from scratch (خَلَقْنَا) such traditions, customs and practices (أُمَّةٌ) – they guide and become benchmark and role models towards Allah’s path (يَهْدُونَ) with absolute truth and justice, due right, in accordance with their duties and responsibility (بِالْحَقِّ) and with it, they establish and are upholders of justice by being fair and just in all their dealings regardless of their own likeness or hatred towards others (يَعْدِلُونَ).

And those who deny, reject, ignore, make fun of, ridicule and take as jokes (كَذَّبُوا) with such signs of Allah that they are exposed to (بِآيَاتِنَا)- let them get the recompense and face consequences of their actions (سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُمْ) based on whatever they could afford and are capable of (حَيْثُ) for which they are not aware (يَعْلَمُونَ).

And their situation is prolonged (وَأُمْلِي) for them. Indeed, my plan (كَيْدِي) is deep rooted, strong, deep-seated, and intended to withstand hard use (مَتِينٌ).

These three ayahs continue the description of the two distinct group of people, one the guided ones and the other those who got misled. Thus, talking about those who are the guided ones, these people create from scratch, traditions, customs and practices that are reflective of them being on the Hidayah, the guided ones so that they become the benchmark, the guides, the role models towards Allah’s path. They carry out and promote such practices that are based on absolute truth, Allah’s message, and absolute justice based on due rights of everyone and in accordance with their duties and responsibilities. They are the ones who establish and are upholders of justice by being fair and just in all their dealings regardless of their own likeness or hatred towards others.

On the other extreme are those who deny, reject, ignore, make fun of, ridicule and take Allah’s sign as jokes and in non-serious manner. The clear divine wisdom and advice to the addresses of the Quran is to let them get the recompense and face consequences of their actions, since such people carry out deeds based on whatever they could afford and are capable of, without truly knowing or being aware of their own freedom of choice and freewill and the concept of perfect accountability to be accorded to them sooner or later. The fact remains that their recompense, the process of accountability is being prolonged for them since Allah’s grand plan is deep rooted and strong.

Ayah 7:184, “Do not they Yatafakkaru (يَتَفَكَّرُوا) what with their Sahibihim (بِصَاحِبِهِمْ) from Jinnatin (جِنَّةٍ)? Indeed, it is not except Nazirun (نَذِيرٌ) Mubinun (مُبِينٌ).”

Do not they study, think, and ponder (يَتَفَكَّرُوا) what with is all around them as their companions (بِصَاحِبِهِمْ) from what don’t make sense to them and they do not understand (جِنَّةٍ)? Indeed, it is nothing except such warning, caution, that is asking them to plan for the future in terms of required actions that needs to be done right now (نَذِيرٌ) as clear proofs, distinguishing right from wrong and explaining in detail (مُبِينٌ).

This ayah is a thought-provoking question concerning such people who in spite of the fact are blessed with Allah’s Naimat such as Allah’s message, the intellect, the faculties remain deprived of such blessings due to their own choices of being blind followers depicting behaviors not like intellectual human beings but as domesticated pet animals. Thus, Allah ask about them, that do they not study, think, and ponder about as Allah’s Signs of the Message and the universe that is scattered all around them as their companions since to them these Ayaat of Allah do not make sense due to their inability to understand these. It’s so ironic that Allah’s Ayaat, including those of the Message of Allah as well as the signs of the universe are nothing except such warning, caution, that is asking them to plan for the future in terms of required actions that needs to be done right now. These are nothing but clear proofs, distinguishing right from wrong and explaining to them in detail but they remain heedless.

Ayah 7:185, “Do not they Yanzuru (يَنْظُرُوا) in Malakuti (مَلَكُوتِ) the Samawati (السَّمَاوَاتِ) and the Alarzi (وَالْأَرْضِ) and what Khalaqa (خَلَقَ) Allah of Shayyin (شَيْءٍ) and indeed, A’asaa (عَسَىٰ) that Yakuna (يَكُونَ)- certainly Aqtaraba (اقْتَرَبَ) their Ajaluhum (أَجَلُهُمْ) so what Hadithin (حَدِيثٍ) after it they Yu-minuna (يُؤْمِنُونَ)?”

Do not they think, watch with vigilant and observational approach by giving undivided attention, and focus (يَنْظُرُوا) in the dominions, possessions, kingdoms of (مَلَكُوتِ) every environment, what is beyond the planet earth, the universe (السَّمَاوَاتِ) and the planet earth (وَالْأَرْضِ) and what has been created (خَلَقَ) by Allah of everything (شَيْءٍ) and indeed, toughness, having capabilities, abilities and powers (عَسَىٰ) that Allah has aimed in being through this system of Allah (يَكُونَ)- certainly is near (اقْتَرَبَ) their postponement (أَجَلُهُمْ) so what event and happening (حَدِيثٍ) after it they seek knowledge of by utilization of their intellect and abilities in order to be at utter and deep conviction with (يُؤْمِنُونَ)?

This ayah is another thought- provoking question that do not they think, watch with vigilant and observational approach by giving undivided attention, and focus, the dominions, possessions, and kingdoms of every environment, what is beyond the planet earth, the universe and the galaxy as well as what is in the planet earth and what has been created by Allah of everything in it. Indeed, do they not understand the vastness of Allah’s toughness, capabilities, abilities and powers. It is an undeniable fact that the near, the perfect accountability for such people is near and will be happening soon. The last question is the most important question asking about them, that what hadith, what event after Allah’s creation and guidance, do they seek knowledge of by utilization of their intellect and abilities in order to be at utter and deep conviction with?

Ayah 7:186, “Whoever Yuzlili (يُضْلِلِ) Allah then not Hadiya (هَادِيَ) for them and Yazaruhum (وَيَذَرُهُمْ) of their Tugh’yanihim (طُغْيَانِهِمْ) Ya’mahuna (يَعْمَهُونَ).”

Whoever is diverted, disconnected, deprived and misled from (يُضْلِلِ) Allah’s system then not is guidance (هَادِيَ) for them and disconnect, leave, separate from them (وَيَذَرُهُمْ) of their overstepping the boundaries, crossing the boundaries in terms of extreme transgression (طُغْيَانِهِمْ) wander aimlessly (يَعْمَهُونَ).

The last ayah of this series of Ayahs summarizes the discussion about this group of people telling us that whoever is diverted, disconnected, deprived and misled from Allah’s system then the Allah’s guidance is not for them since they haven’t used their intellect to seek knowledge, remained heedless of Allah’s guidance and thus deprived of Allah’s blessings. We, as addresses of the Quran is advised to disconnect, leave, and separate from such people as they remain in the state of blind wandering, overstepping the boundaries, crossing the boundaries in terms of extreme transgression and wandering aimlessly from the right path. This is because they transgress and digress in extreme transgression by following the Taghut- all such people, beings, systems, laws, etc. which they follow, as act of Shirk, instead of Allah’s guidance.

C.    LESSONS AS PER THESE AYAHS:

These Ayahs of Surah Al-A’raf give us the following divine lessons

  • ASMA’EY HUSNA: Allah emphasizes deep knowledge of Hasanat aspects, which are desirable and pleasing to our souls, given as gifts without any expectation of return and given beyond our due rights. We should seek and invite people with the help of and towards these aspects.

  • TWO DISTINCT GROUPS: The Ayahs describe two groups: those on the path of Allah and those misled. Guided individuals create traditions, customs, and practices reflecting the Guidance by serving as role models and benchmarks. They promote practices based on truth, Allah’s message, and justice, ensuring fairness and justice regardless of personal differences or hatred towards others. On the other hand, those who are misled, dismiss, reject and ridicule Allah’s signs.

  • THOUGHT PROVOKING QUESTIONS: These Ayahs raise three thought-provoking questions to those blessed with Allah’s Naimat, intellect, and message, but remain heedless and deprived of these due to being blind followers resembling domesticated animals; 1) The first question asks if people do not study Allah’s Signs of the Message and the universe that surrounds them from all sides as their companions, but they find these Ayaat confusing due to their inability to understand them. It’s ironic that these Ayaats are warnings and cautions, but they remain heedless; 2) The second question asks if people are not vigilant and observational in their understanding of the universe, planet Earth, and Allah’s vastness, capabilities, and powers based on what is created by Allah. 3) The final question is about their Emaan of Hadith, asking them that after Allah’s Guidance, what is this hadith (actual meaning event, happening) which they seek knowledge of using their intellect and abilities to be deeply convinced with?

  • HOW SUCH PEOPLE REMAIN DEPRIVED: Disconnected, deprived, and misled from Allah’s system, those who lack the ability to use their intellect and to seek knowledge remain heedless of Allah’s blessings and thus, Allah’s guidance is not for them.

  • OUR INTERACTIONS TOWARDS SUCH PEOPLE: We, as addresses of the Quran, should separate from these individuals who engage in blind following, extreme transgression, and aimless wandering, as they follow Taghut as acts of Shirk, instead of Allah’s guidance. Since such people act based on their own abilities without acknowledging the concept of freewill or accountability, the divine guidance is that these people with deeply rooted beliefs and customs who refuse to change or seek knowledge should be left alone, allowing them to face consequences and recompense for their own actions.
